As a new driver to the snow world, I have learned a few tips to have a safe drive. I am sure I will gather more as I keep driving but for my second day, this is what I got.
Tip 1: Brush off as much snow as possible. This includes ALL windows and as much of the car (top, front, back, lights, etc) as can be seen. This will reduce the number of blind spots on your drive that you don't see while looking at the car. Also, this will minimize how much snow will fall onto the windows while driving. If snowing, turn on the back window defroster, keeps the snow from accumulating.
Tip 2: Stopping takes skills. It is slippery and you need to give yourself room to slide when stopping. I drove right through a stop sign today and thank goodness it was an empty intersection. The second stop sign I started slowing down about 40 feet before hand and I was able to completely stop. Pump the break if you feel they are not responding. Just give yourself room.
Tip 3: Getting going on the snow or ice takes patience. Start up slow, if you give too much gas your wheels are just going to spin and the car is going to go nowhere. Start with a litle gas and if you are pulling into traffic, give yourself room. Wait for the light or a big break in traffic, depending on the conditions, traffic may not be able to stop or slow down enough to avoid you.
Tip 4: Turns are tricky. If there is snow or ice, slow down and keep breaking up until you start to turn, then coast through the turn and once mostly straight, give it some gas. Do not break or give it too much gas while turning, you will spin.
These are all my lessons after 2 days of driving. Hope they help some new driver out there. At the very least, hope someone got a good laugh. Be safe out there.

My Blog is On
Will be sharing my thoughts, comments, and opinions on pretty much anything. It will mostly be about things I come across in Denver or wherever my travels take me but also on popular news, etc. I work best with goals, so I will try to post twice a week as a start.
Wish me luck!
